Columbia Area Friends Host Hurricane Relief Drive for Western Carolina Following Hurricane Helene
Columbia, SC – In response to the devastating impact of Hurricane Helene on Western North Carolina, the Columbia community is stepping up to provide much-needed relief. A donation drive will take place on Thursday, October 3rd and Friday, October 4th at Finn’s Farm (formerly known as River Rat Brewery), located at 1231 Shop Road. This effort is aimed at filling two 53-foot tractor-trailers, generously provided by Nilson Moving Company, with essential supplies for those hardest hit by the storm.
Partnering with local nonprofit Mule Pack, the teams will ensure that these supplies reach even the most isolated areas of Western North Carolina. Volunteers are crucial to this effort, and assistance is needed to pack and prepare the trucks for swift delivery.
Donations can be dropped off at Finn’s Farm from 11:00 AM to 4:00 PM on both days. Community members are encouraged to contribute vital items including:
- No-cook food items: snack/protein bars, granola, nuts, canned fruits/vegetables/meats, peanut butter, dried fruit
- Beverages: bottled water, pre-made sports drinks, juices, gallons of water
- Household goods/toiletries: toilet paper, paper towels, paper plates/cups, plastic utensils, hand sanitizer, blankets, toiletries, feminine products, disinfectant wipes
- Baby supplies: diapers, wipes, formula, bottles, diaper rash cream
- Other vital supplies: gas cans (with or without gas), chainsaw oil mix, tarps, flashlights, batteries
- Pet food, books, games, crayons or other activities for children
Local businesses, including Drip Coffee, Harvest Cafe, McDonnell and Associates, Caliber Coffee, McDonnell Tax Services, Carolina Task Master, and Strom Law Firm, are supporting this initiative and have provided resources to help make the event a success.
“This is a critical time for the communities in Western North Carolina,” said one of the organizers. “The generosity of Columbia’s residents will ensure that relief efforts can reach those in the most need, especially those in areas still cut off from assistance.”
Volunteers are still needed during the donation hours to help sort and pack goods for efficient loading. If you’re interested in volunteering, please come to 1231 Shop Road between 11 AM and 4 PM on Thursday or Friday.
Together, we can make a difference!
