South Carolina Girl Survives Close Encounter with Shark

In a harrowing close call off the coast of South Carolina, an 11-year-old girl taking a dip in the ocean appears to have narrowly escaped a deadly encounter with a shark.

Video captured by Nicole Oister shows her daughter body surfing just off the shore of Myrtle Beach when an ominous fin suddenly appears and begins rapidly moving toward her. The panicked girl quickly jumps to her feet in the shallow water and runs toward the beach, the video reveals.

Shark experts say swimmers should stay close to the shore, always swim with a friend, avoid swimming at dawn or dusk and stay away from areas with a lot of fish or seals, which could attract sharks.
