Never afraid to bite the hand that feeds him to point out injustice, Simpson busked outside the Grammys one year. Stylistically, Sturgill’s songwriting stays firmly country, but the instrumentation and production purposely push the envelope, from neo-traditional country to country soul to fuzzed out, dance-able rock.
