Things to Look Forward to in December

Here are a few things to look forward to in December . . .

 

LOCAL

A bowl game for the  Gamecocks! Plus, five women’s  and four men’s basketball games you can catch at the CLA.

Christmas things (thanks to ColaToday.com), include:

  • Carolina Lights | Saturday, Dec. 3-Monday, Dec. 26, closed Christmas Day | 6-10 p.m. | South Carolina State Fairgrounds, 1200 Rosewood Dr. | $20+ | Drive through over 100 individual LED light displays through the SC Fairgrounds.
  • Holiday Lights on the River | Now-Saturday, Dec. 31 | 6-10 p.m. | Saluda Shoals Park, 6071 St. Andrews Rd. | $25+ | Journey through over three miles of lights featuring colorful, animated light displays of all shapes and sizes
  • Lights Before Christmas | Now-Friday, Dec. 30 | 5-9 p.m. | Riverbanks Zoo & Garden, 500 Wildlife Pkwy. | $12+ | Take your photo with Santa, and roast marshmallows at the Jingle Bell Bonfire.

 

SPORTS

College football’s bowl games start December 16th

World Cup runs through December 18th (USA plays the Netherlands in the Round of 16 this Saturday)

 

MOVIES & TV

The action-comedy Christmas flick “Violent Night” opens tomorrow, “Emancipation” with Will Smith hits Apple TV on the 9th, “The Whale” with Brendan Fraser hits theaters the same day.

“Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio” hits Netflix, also on the 9th, and the long-awaited sequel, “Avatar: The Way of Water” hits theaters December 16th.

Lots of holiday specials.  Also, The People’s Choice Awards next Tuesday . . . “Too Hot to Handle” on Netflix next Wednesday . . . and Harrison Ford’s new “Yellowstone” prequel series “1923” hits Paramount+ the 18th.

 

HOLIDAYS

The big ones are Christmas, Hanukkah from the 18th to the 26th, and Kwanzaa from the 26th to January 1st.

But there’s also National Cookie Day this Sunday, National Ice Cream Day on the 13th, Ugly Sweater Day on the 16th, the first day of winter on December 21st, Festivus is the 23rd, and December 31st is New Year’s Eve, when we finally say goodbye to 2022.
