Let’s jump into the Deep Dive into the songs of Rhett Miller and Old 97’s!  As y’all know, I’m a huge fan of the band.  I didn’t know of them until their 3rd album rolled out, Too Far To Care.  The title is taken from one of the songs, “Streets of Where I’m From.”  I worked backwards from there.  TFTC was also my introduction to the Texas take on alt-country and Southern indie rock of that era.

Originally released by Elektra in 1997, Omnivore Records released a fabulous special expanded edition in 2012, including demos and outtakes from the recording sessions.  Old 97’s reworked a couple of previously released songs.  Exene Cervenka (of X) joined Rhett on “Four Leaf Clover.”  They also re-recorded “Big Brown Eyes” from Wreck Your Life.  The double album re-release is worth investigating!

Rhett Miller will be playing solo at The Senate, Columbia, SC on April 5, 2019.
