Toro Y Moi Drops New ‘Sandhills’ EP and Film Featuring Iconic Midlands Landmarks
Toro y Moi has unveiled a fresh EP titled “Sandhills,” accompanied by a captivating short film that intimately captures his return to his roots in South Carolina. The film, directed by Steve Daniels, provides a visual narrative of this homecoming journey. The EP is now available for listeners through Dead Oceans.
Chaz Bear, the creative force behind Toro y Moi, collaborated with his former high school photography teacher, Katherine Perry, who now works as a producer, to craft this new short film. Notably, Steve Daniels is a familiar face from Bear’s past in South Carolina. The EP’s artwork was crafted by local artist Ernest Lee, adding a personal touch to the project. The video features the participation of an actual high-school football team, further connecting with the genuine essence of the South Carolina experience.
This release follows Toro y Moi’s previous album, “Mahal,” which debuted in May 2022. Notably, that release also included a short film titled “Goes by So Fast,” starring Eric André.
